"The whole art of teaching is only the art of awakening the natural curiosity of young minds for the purpose of satisfying it afterwards"

Performing Arts
We strongly believe in the benefits of Music Education.  Research indicates that musical training permanently wires a young mind for enhanced performance in all areas of learning.  It has been found that music affects the growth of a child's brain academically, emotionally, physically and spiritually.  Music can also train the brain for higher forms of thinking.

Music lessons are an integral part of the Uptown Primary curriculum and are transdisciplinary in nature.  Lessons cover a wide range of age appropriate learning activities based on creating and responding and are often connected to what students are learning in their classroom, making music meaningful and relevant to all learning.

The students learn to play the recorder and the violin as part of their music curriculum.  Concerts are held on a regular basis, showcasing the learning that has taken place.

Outside of music lessons, we have an auditioned representative Uptown  Primary School Choir, Violin Ensemble and School Band.  A number of music ECAs are available each semester to promote music and the arts.  From Grade 1, each student is offered the opportunity to partake of private music tuition in violin, voice, piano, keyboard, drums, guitar and music theory.

Through their active participation in our music programme, concerts, ECAs and our individual private tuition programme, students have the opportunity to be exposed to and to participate in both live and recorded musical experiences, leading toward a lifelong appreciation of music.

Visual Arts
Our students enjoy specialist Visual Arts lessons in our purpose-built art studio.  They learn about different artists, different art styles and explore different art media while studying Art Theory.  Students begin to think and behave like an artist and appreciate art as a form of communication.

Art is an opportunity to consolidate our understanding of the units of inquiry.
