The IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) caters for students aged 3 to 12 and offers an opportunity to acquire essential skills in an atmosphere where deeper understanding of concepts is nurtured.
Teachers collaboratively plan units of inquiry across six transdisciplinary themes:
- Who We Are
- Where We Are In Place and Time
- How We Express Ourselves
- How The World Works
- How We Organise Ourselves
- Sharing the Planet
The PYP is committed to inquiry as a vehicle for learning through the concepts of form, function, causation, change, connection, perspective, responsibility and reflection. Our students also engage with the transdisciplinary skills of thinking, research, communication, social and self management skills.
Attitudes are also a focus in the school and our students are encouraged to demonstrate the following attitudes: Appreciation, Commitment, Confidence, Cooperation, Creativity, Curiosity, Empathy, Enthusiasm, Independence, Integrity, Respect and Tolerance.
The PYP believes that student action is a vital component in the programme and this action can be demonstrated in a variety of ways, whether individually or in a group working collaboratively.
The Exhibition
The Exhibition is a culmination of students' experiences at Uptown Primary School and in the IB Primary Years Programme. It allows students to engage in an in-depth, collaborative inquiry and to synthesise and apply their learning from previous years as well as reflecting upon their journey through the PYP.
The Exhibition provides our students with an opportunity to demonstrate independence and responsibility for their learning, to explore multiple perspectives and to demonstrate how they can take action as a result of their learning.
The Exhibition unites members of our school community in a collaborative experience that incorporates all the essential elements of the PYP. It celebrates the transition of our IB Primary Years students to the IB Middle Years Programme.
